Vendor Diversity Program Information

What Are Minority and Women Owned Vendors (M/WOV)?

The Holman Group defines Minority and Women Owned Vendors as companies which have been certified as such by a third party organization acceptable to The Holman Group. Diverse Vendors are those that are 51% or more owned and operated by women, minorities and/or service disabled veterans.

Minority and Women Owned Vendors include:

  • African American-owned businesses
  • Hispanic American-owned businesses
  • Native American-owned businesses
  • Asian Indian American- and Asian Pacific American-owned businesses
  • Non-Minority Women-owned businesses
  • Disabled Veterans Business Enterprise

What is certification?
Certification is a way in which business owners can validate the ownership of their company. There are several local and national agencies that administer an in-depth review of all aspects of the business to ensure that it is owned, operated, and managed by minorities or women.

Why certification?
In order to give a supplier diversity program credibility, it is important for a corporation to require certification. It is impossible for a company, on its own, to ensure the ownership of all their suppliers. Certification provides an external resource.

For certification, the following organizations are recommended:

  • Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE)
  • Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE)
  • Women / Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE)
    • California Public Utilities Commission Supplier Clearinghouse
  • Small Business Enterprise (SBE)
    • U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
    • Department of General Services Office of Small Business Certification and Resources
  • Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE)

Other third parties who provide certification include:
