How the New Cobra Provisions Impact Your Clients
The new economic stimulus bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provided for significant changes to COBRA. Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985. The new law took effect March 1, 2009 contains provisions that allow employees who declined to continue health insurance coverage at time of termination between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 now have the right to choose to cont inue the coverage wi th a government-paid subsidy of the insurance premium.
